We’re hurtling into 2024 now, but unusually for me I’ve only seen two shows so far. I’m about to change that today with a classic Saturday two-show day, but so far I’ve seen a brilliant panto that my super talented friends wrote and staged, plus had a long-awaited return trip to The Little Big Things.
I am quite careful about how many times I go back the the same show, and try to keep very large gaps between visits. I don’t like remembering exactly what’s coming next all the time and I hate it when shows get old for me. So after a near 4-month gap I decided it was time to head back to the beautiful Soho Place for another viewing of the new musical that everyone’s talking about.
Don’t get me wrong, I still have some issues with the piece. The book is sometimes a little clunky and overly cheesy. But the score is just lovely, particularly in act two. The show champions diversity with such ease and it does what it intends to do with your emotional response to the story. Yes that means I did shed a few tears, but so did half of the theatre. Sometimes theatre doesn’t have to be perfect for you to love it. The musical has heart, and that’s what matters.
The Little Big Things ends on 2 March if you haven’t already been. I’ve popped a £25 offer below too if you want to save some money! They’ve also just released the full soundtrack which will definitely go on repeat after seeing it live.
Happy ticket-buying!
