It’s been another quieter theatre week for me after a busy few months, but I did catch two great amateur shows that deserve a mention. On Saturday I headed to Mountview in Peckham to see some of their students perform in Urinetown. I love the show, and it’s always great to see new interpretations. Considering I was at the first public performance, it was incredibly slick. If this is the talent coming through our drama schools then we’ve got nothing to worry about in the coming years.
On Tuesday I was on front of house duty for Sedos’ Titanic the Musical. It’s not a favourite of mine, but the team managed to put together an amazing show. For an amateur group to come up with such brilliant, imaginative staging shows that you don’t have to stick to professional shows to have a good night at the theatre.
Both shows close tomorrow - Titanic’s matinee is sold out but there’s limited tickets available for the evening performance. Urinetown has some seats left for both shows.
I’m still keeping it quiet in December as I get back to working on some exciting new things for Bums on Seats, but look out for my reviews of the acclaimed My Neighbour Totoro and New Wimbledon Theatre’s panto Cinderella coming soon.
Happy ticket-buying!

I’m kind of a big deal
I’m beginning to sound like a broken record, but I will always bang on about the New Year Sale. You can get tickets to top West End shows in January and February from just £10. Big names such as Wicked, Matilda and The Lion King are included in the sale. With Christmas around the corner, if you wanted to get a theatrical trip as a gift then this could be a good way to do it without breaking the bank.
I’ve booked three of the £10 shows in the sale - Ghosts, Bronco Billy and The Mousetrap. Keep an eye out in the New Year when I’ll be back on TikTok showing what you can get for just a tenner through the annual sale!
