I’m back to the busy weeks of many many shows. Since the last newsletter I’ve enjoyed the beautiful harmonies of Louise Dearman and Rachel Tucker at the Side Show concert, taken a trip down the Limpopo River at Sedos’ Just So, and boogied to some camp classics at the brand new Priscilla the Party!
But on Thursday I went to the current sold-out hit, Cable Street, at the Southwark Playhouse. I’m glad I booked my ticket weeks ago after seeing the recent barrage of good reviews. Although interestingly I wasn’t quite as enraptured by it. By far the best thing about it is the music - there’s some really gorgeous songs and how they staged the battle of Cable Street itself was fantastic.
But for me the story seemed a little overcomplicated and strangely paced. I didn’t quite get the emotional response I expected from it for that reason, but it was still good and I hope it has a new life to potentially iron out some of the kinks! Especially when I only paid £15 for the ticket through the Southwark’s brilliant Pay As You Go scheme!
As I mentioned, the show is sold out but you can get returns. They are adding returned tickets at midday for that day’s performances, or you can try at the box office in person.
Happy ticket-buying!
