A little late from me on the newsletter front this week, apologies! I’m afraid I spent yesterday morning being prodded, poked and scanned, and then fitted with a 24 hour heart monitor. I think we are finally getting towards some answers following my fainting incident back in April(!) I’m not the best with hospitals, needles and the like so I’ve been doing well with it all, but it’s getting a bit of a slog now. Crossing fingers that the end is finally in sight!
Anyway, if anything is going to cheer me up it’s a bit of theatre - particularly a new musical that I’d seen previously at the Southwark Playhouse finally being given the platform it deserves in London’s West End! It easily made my top ten from 2023. I am of course talking about the delightful The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.
It’s not officially open yet so I won’t dive into a full review, but I cannot explain enough how much I enjoyed this one. If I was going to liken it to anything I’d say think of Amelie, Come From Away or Fisherman’s Friends and merge them all together. It’s got the best actor-muso performances I’ve seen in ages, gorgeous Cornish folk music and a beautiful (if slightly heartbreaking) storyline. I laughed, cried and smiled. I’ve been recommending it to friends ever since.
It’s currently only booking until February, but with the reaction it’s already getting from audiences I would be surprised if that doesn’t get extended. There’s tickets available directly from £20, or you can try for £29.50 rush tickets through TodayTix!
Happy ticket-buying!

I’m kind of a big deal
Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap is such a West End staple that I think sometimes people forget they haven’t seen it! It was only February when I went after realising I’d never experienced it at the St Martin’s Theatre. It may have been in London for the longest time, but it’s still a great murder mystery.
Seat Plan currently have some great £25 tickets on offer for the show. I sat in the upper circle when I went - it’s a pretty small theatre so you don’t feel too far away. There’s similar seats available on this deal, as well as some further down in the dress circle. As always I recommend checking Seat Plan to see where you’re sitting before booking. Legroom can be a little tricky in the upper at this theatre too so if you’re lanky like me, take note of other’s comments.
Don’t forget to get your programme stamped with the performance number too!
